Résumé de la thèse

This project aims at emphasizing the importance of comprehensive understanding on coping mechanism at very old age and to examine the extent to which specific coping strategies help to overcome age associated losses and maintain well-being. Therefore, we will, in a first step, assemble empirical research evidence via comprehensive literature review on how very old individuals cope with age-related difficulties. Then, in a second step, the links between coping predictors, strategies and outcomes in very old age will be studied using first secondary data and then newly collected data. Last but not least, we will also investigate coping strategies and their underlying mechanisms on a dyadic level, thus, addressing the importance of studying coping outcomes not only in very old individuals, but also considering the interaction with their adult children.
