Description

Understanding human behaviours often requires to consider multiple factors, some of which relate to the individuals themselves and others to their environment. Understanding this complexity can be done through single case studies (individual level) or through sample studies (group or aggregate level). Each approach has its advantages and disadvantages, and being able to reconcile the two, for example by considering that the sample is a collection or an aggregation of individual cases, allows for a certain enrichment of the modelling. This is what multilevel analysis aims to do, and it has become the standard technique for reporting on individual data (e.g. longitudinal data, but not only) collected from samples of people. The aim of the workshop is to provide a theoretical and applied introduction to multilevel modelling, the statistical calculations involved and the interpretation of the results obtained. It also aims to give participants the opportunity to work on their own data and to apply the concepts and methods taught to current research protocols.
