Description

Not all doctoral students want to pursue a classical academic career after completing their dissertation. The aim of this workshop is therefore to present career paths outside of research and teaching at a university. We invite practitioners who have successfully started a career outside academia after finishing their dissertation in different fields of psychology.

The speakers will give a short overview of their career, including information about their (former) research area and their experiences at different universities. They will provide insights into how their academic skills are useful in the current job and how they managed to highlight the usefulness of their academic skills for organizations. In a round-table discussion, the speakers will elaborate on the difficulties they faced when they applied for jobs and how they dealt with the challenges outside of academia.

This year we were able to invite three speakers from well-known organizations in important and growing fields, namely data science, management, and user / customer experience.
